Rainforest
- Riflebird fantasy
This painting
was begun after a trip to the Bunya Mountains, and lay unfinished for
years until I decided it needed a bird to liven it up. As
a child, I pored over my father's copy of Neville Cayley's What Bird is
that? My favourite image was the riflebird, and I drew and painted it
many times. Here I use gold paint, crushed opal and rich
coloured embroidery thread to celebrate the magic that bird gave me in
my childhood.
