Ochre Pits rockface

The richly coloured cliffs of the Ochre Pits west of the Alice have been used for generations by the local people as a mine for mineral ochre. Prized for painting, ceremonial body decorating and healing powers, the ochres have been traded all over the land. The yellow there is vibrant, the best I’ve seen, but not mine to take!
